RESPECT

I know and feel I am calm

Don’t see me as though a balm

Always I stick to avoid the insult

Same ways the avoidance you consult

Grey hairs needs approach to the picture

Whatever you give you get the mixture

The backbone is suggested

By what need to be digested

I have known heads

Countless of them don’t abide by the trend

For fruitful harvest we water the beds

The children with that will learn to blend

LOVE

How beautiful it is to behold

So sweet it is never to be told

Like rays of sunlight it unravels

Just like the flowing stream so it travels

It is most times juicy but sometimes the opposite

The approach to it takes one down and up exit

It bridles existence sequentially

If it is not tagged on to financially

I know its name

We know its fame

It naturally comes from above

It is appreciated for it is love

PEN MAGICIAN

As water flows into the deep

So does muse run in me

Like a baby suckling the mother’s breast

I derive joy making lines with the ink

Amidst friendly conversations

I laugh and smile

Yet unknown to them

The inspirational bug has attacked

Line creators of imaginations

I belong to that community

We’re of one specie

Poetry runs in our veins

My lips stagger to voice

My bleeding pen gives an outcry

As an opportunist in colour and size

To the globe a great town crier

The wand exceedingly magical

Sings praises in my ode

Wails deeply in my elegy

Criticizes in my satire

Admonishes in my ballad

Strikes the gist in my epic

In that river of creativity

My pen dives in productivity

It sings, tells and acts for the goddess

I have a sword that wins wars

Eulogize the pen magician with accolade

Acclaim the being who creates with words

SELF AGREEMENT

That which I love doing

Difficult for me to make a step

The passion lies deep in me

But the zeal is far fetched

So many things on my mind

Think of family, friends and future

Distractions the name for it

Greatness has been my dream

Admiring people in the likes of Adichie

Odinaka as a mirror of the Chimamanda

Forgetting that it took them a lot to arrive

The journey I think should begin

With me conquering pessimism

Determined to get out of my shell

Since they can make it then I too can

That burning desire

I need to acquire

The muse of self-realization

I call for self-actualization

IT IS NOT TOO LATE

October 20, 2023 by John Steve Leave a Comment

                                                 IT IS NOT TOO LATE

I want you to know that it is not too late, you can still make it up for yourself and your parents.

No matter the mistake you may have made in the past, there is always a chance to make it right, so far there is life, there is hope. There is still hope for the dead who lived a good life, what of you that is living.

I know many of you have developed this believe that, it is too late because of the way things are, what you are passing through, heard and what you have seen, it is also important I remind you that every successful person had once failed, if you think you are failure, you have to understand that failure is one major ways of learning, failure gives you experience, knowledge and make you wiser, all you need to do is to restrategize and avoid doing same thing that gave you same result you are not happy about.

As a staff, you still have time to make it up, do not allow yourself to believe that it is too late to try or to change things, the first step to achieving any goal is believing that it is possible

Why it’s not too late for you as a student:

1. Because Every Little Helps

Deciding to “not bother studying” because you think it’s too late now and there’s “no point starting” is a huge mistake. Even if it’s 3 days before the exams, you can still fit in some extra pieces of info into your brain that could make a difference in your test, even if you must have failed in your previous test, CA 1 OR ASSIGNMENT, it is not too late, so far as there is life and opportunity. Always have it in mind that it is not over yet until it is over. The final whistle is not yet blown.

Say you have 3 days left before exams, and you use those days to study one topic in mathematics or any subject. Then in the exam, that topic comes up. Even if you couldn’t answer anything else very well, at least you have one thing that you’re going to get high marks in.

This can be the difference between a grade, so never ever resign to doing completely nothing.

2. Because you can’t underestimate your brain

Your brain is amazing, and its possibilities are endless. Don’t underestimate what it and your memory can do in the short space of a few days or weeks.

Take care of it and use it well, and it will help you out in return while you’re studying and doing your exams

  • Make a Study Plan

The first thing you need to do in order to get the most out of your last-minute study is make a study plan. Making a study plan lets you visualise what all you need to get done, will put your mind in organisation and focus mode, and allows you to set goals, targets and study outcomes. Without a plan, you’ll end up choosing random subjects and topics to study without any time limit and you won’t get half of the information into your brain that you could potentially.

  • Commit and Focus

Time is precious now! Now is the time to put other things aside and really put in the effort for the sake of a few weeks. Although I definitely recommend taking plenty of study breaks and still including hobbies, exercise and a social life (to an extent) in your life, when you only have a short amount of time left, it may be necessary to make a few small sacrifices if you’re serious about doing well. The time you have now will go very quickly so you need to decide what you really want to prioritise.

Remember, play and other activities will always stick around and be there, but you will (probably) only do these exams once.

If you’re serious about doing well, you will really put your head down and concentrate on studying as much as you can.

  • Don’t Pull All-Nighters

Trust me, pulling an all-nighter will do nothing to help your studying. If you’re anxious that you haven’t covered everything for your exam the following day and decide to stay awake through the night in order to study instead, you’re only going to make things worse.

Staying up all night and not getting any sleep is very damaging to your brain and health. You’re only going to be worn out and unfocused the next day and will more than likely know less for the exam, due to lack of sleep, than you would have if you had gone to sleep.

You need sleep to concentrate, ideally a minimum of 8 hours per night. If you’re very worried about not knowing enough for something the next day, try setting an earlier alarm and wake up early to continue studying instead. This means you’ll get less sleep but at least it won’t mean no sleep.

  • Keep Things Short

Every second counts now, so using long, boring study methods is not going to work anymore. In order to be able to fit in as much info as possible, you need to use short, efficient ways to absorb all the notes you have, in such a way that your brain won’t be overwhelmed either.

For this I recommend using short bullet points and revision books.

  • Short bullet points

Writing out or studying short bullet points of the most important things about each topic will save you a lot of time. If you write out big paragraphs where half of the words are irrelevant, then you’re just wasting time. Short, to-the-point bullet points will be more time efficient and easier for your brain to remember.

  • Revision Books

Revision books tend to include all the necessary items on the subject syllabus but in a very short and efficient manner. If you have them, I recommend using them as much as you can to absorb all the important points. If you don’t have any, ask a friend, neighbour or classmate if they have any and if you can borrow/make a copy.

  • Practise Past Papers

If all other study methods fail for you, at least try this one. Questions on the exams are so often repeated from year to year. So even if you only manage to study last-minute by doing out a few questions from past papers, it could make a difference to your grade. A question you might practise might come up again on your exam the next day, it may not be exactly but will look familiar and you could get a grade higher as a result.

Never underestimate the power and possibilities of last-minute studying!

  • Don’t Overload Your Brain

I know it sounds contradictory of me, because I’m telling you to study, study, study as much as possible, but remember to take regular breaks and know when to stop. If you feel your brain is exhausted and that nothing else is going in, just stop, take a break and try again later. Don’t convince yourself to keep going just because time is short. This is pointless.

If you try to do too much at once, you’ll exhaust your brain to the point that you know less than you did before you started studying.

So, be as smart and efficient as possible with your study, but when your brain and body is telling you to stop, stop.

Sex with my teacher.

Sex with my teacher.

(Sex Education)

My name is Gloria and I was 15 years old as at the time of this incident. I was staying with someone who took me as a house help, though they gave me the opportunity of going to school.

Every morning I had to wake up early, clean the house, help my madam in the kitchen, help in preparing her children for school, and also run errands after school.

It was not an easy task but I had no choice. I was born into a poor family where we had to struggle to eat, so being here with my madam and oga was a blessing and a relief to my parents.

My oga and madam were nice to me but the house chores given to me got me tired most of the time. It was way tedious than what someone of my age could do and I was not actually free with them as a result of that I found it really difficult to tell them about anything bothering me and this made me crave for someone to talk to.

At my school, we had more of male teachers than female teachers and most of our female teachers were not friendly, they only focused on teaching, assignments, flogging etc.

I was in Ss1 class and there was this particular male teacher who was really caring, he liked sending me on errands at school and he liked buying things for me, I became too close to him that I tell him almost everything, he was the reason I enjoyed going to school.

One day after school,he told me to come see his place since I was his friend and he was like an uncle to me.
I accepted since I had no negative expectations of him.
He took me to his house at about 1pm and school was to close by 2pm, he did that so that I could be able to go back to my oga’s house on time.

At his house, he gave me drink and asked me to sit on his legs that he wanted us to talk like good friends.
I sat on his legs and he was telling me all the beautiful things in the world, I felt it was beautiful because it was coming from a mature mind. I noticed his hands were going through my laps, opening my skirt to the point of touching my pants.

I was uncomfortable, I called him uncle, he removed his hands and was still talking to me, he was acting like he wasn’t aware of where his hand was going.

He asked me to show him my breast, I didn’t because I was not cormfortable with it. At this point I told him that the time was almost 2pm and I needed to go home so that my madam will not start looking for me.

He said that’s true and asked me to hug him and kiss him, I told him I couldn’t kiss him that it wasn’t right but he said it’s a way of telling someone you really care and appreciate them, his words were convincing, that I believed that it was not a bad thing after all. I accepted, I hugged him and kissed him, it was during the kissing that he held me and carried me up to his bed, and his strength was more than mine,I was screaming and crying for help but no one came ,he disvirgined me.

I was in tears, I couldn’t walk, he was begging me and he helped me to wash myself and was telling me that he really care, that I should not tell my oga, I stayed for awhile because I couldn’t walk.

When I got home, my madam asked me what kept me at school, I lied to her saying that my teacher kept us late to finish up a note. They were not observant about my abnormal steps or my red eyes or my sad face. She asked me to help her prepare food in the kitchen which I did.

The next day I was scared of going to school, but I couldn’t skip because my madam will ask questions. When I got to school, I avoided my teacher like a plague, I was full of many thoughts, I regretted going to his house,I hated him and I couldn’t help myself.

If I had any knowledge on how sexual abuse and rape occured I wouldn’t have fallen a victim of this, I was living a life of regret.

It was when I turned 19 years old, that I was fortunate enough to meet a Counselor from Confidants Solace Zone that I started having a rethink about men and the pieces of my life are coming back to a positive shape.

Sex Education is really important and should be taught in schools and every school needs a counselor.
