Dear friends,
Over the years, I’ve noticed that many of you have achievable goals, but lack the motivation to pursue them. As a Therapist and Counsellor, I’ve discovered that understanding oneself is key to unlocking success.
A Real-Life Example
Let me illustrate this with the story of my two friends, Mr. Theophilus and Mr. Kelvin. Both had goals they wanted to achieve, but felt overwhelmed and discouraged. During our conversation, I shared a simple yet effective strategy that helped them regain momentum.
Understanding Your Motivations
To achieve your goals, it’s essential to understand what motivates and demotivates you. Take time to reflect on your values, strengths, and weaknesses. Ask yourself:
What drives me to take action?
What are the things that hold me back?
What are my long-term goals, and how do they align with my values?
Setting SMART Goals
Ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). Break down large goals into smaller, manageable tasks to maintain momentum.
The Power of Accountability
If you’re someone who thrives on external validation, share your goals with trusted friends or family members. This can provide an added motivation to stay on track. However, if you’re someone who feels discouraged when others know about your goals, it’s perfectly fine to keep them private.
Understanding Yourself
Self-awareness is crucial to achieving your goals. Take time to understand your:
Strengths and weaknesses
Learning style and preferences
Emotional triggers and coping mechanisms
